13 years ago after his New 52 series ended, the resurrection man has returned.
I just finished reading Resurrection Man #1 and... Yeah, this run is going to be awesome.
If you don’t know what his powers are, basically, when he dies he comes back to life with a new power that has to do with how he died. So, if he died in a fire he gets fire powers. Dies falling out of a plane, he wakes with the power to fly. He is an awesome cult classic character from the 90s created by writers Andy Lanning and Dan Abentt and artists Jackson Guice back in 1997.
I haven’t read the original runs, but I’ve seen him pop through the DC multiverse. but I’ve got to say this comic is awesome. It’s raw, badass storytelling with some very interesting and captivating art. The art is not clean marvel boilerplate art, and I love that about this comic. It’s just its own thing that stands out amongst this week and possibly this year of new releases.
The team behind this is writer Ram V, and artist Anand RK, I hope I said those correctly! But they are doing a fantastic job with it. It reminds me a lot of Sandman. Just very gritty and pulls you in with an interesting story and concept right off the rip.
At the start of this story we see Mitch Shelley aka Resurrection Man die but this time it’s old age. Which makes me wonder what will his new powers be? Will he kill himself in some interesting way to create new powers? The possibilities are kind of endless and interesting with this character. As the story unfolds, a version of himself comes back through time or across the universe to tell him about the world-ending event.
I just realized this is, once again, another retired superhero coming back to save the world cliche, as much as I love it. The past 3/5 #1’s I reviewed this week had the same damn thing. Come on, writers, please do something new and interesting… and I’m saying this while also loving the troupe… but it’s getting out of hand.
Anyway, add it to your pull list, and keep reading it just like me! Okay bye!
